Cookie usage
GlowUps uses a small number of cookies, all of them necessary to run the site or to remember a preference you set yourself. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use anything that tracks you across other websites.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a site asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. It is how a website knows you are still the person who logged in a minute ago.
The cookies we set
Strictly necessary
These make the site work. It cannot function without them, so they do not require consent.
- xf_session — identifies your browsing session. Expires when you close your browser or after a period of inactivity.
- xf_csrf — a security token that stops other sites submitting forms as you.
- xf_user — set only if you tick “stay logged in”. Keeps you signed in between visits. Expires after one year, or when you log out.
- xf_tfa_trust — set only if you use two-step verification and mark a device as trusted.
Preferences
These remember a choice you made. Clearing them just resets that choice.
- xf_style_variation — whether you are using the light or dark theme.
- xf_language_id — your chosen language, if the board offers more than one.
- gu_gallery_hidden — whether you have collapsed the before-and-after gallery. Expires after one year.
- gu_visit — a simple visit counter, used to decide whether to mark recent posts as new to you. Expires after one year.
What we do not use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No cross-site tracking or data brokers.
- No third-party analytics that profile you across other websites.
Our CAPTCHA and anti-spam providers may set their own cookies at the point you register or when a submission looks automated. Those are covered by their own policies.
Managing cookies
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies in its settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop you being able to log in or post. Blocking the preference ones only means the site forgets your theme and gallery choices.
